Chris Rowan is a geologist. He studies plate movements and magnetism within the rocks. He studies plate tectonics, and natural hazards as they have occurred over thousands of years in order to help predict future plate movements and hazards. His work has helped determined the age mountains, and determine if they are growing, or crumbling away.
Chris Rowan’s work has influenced much of my writing in the Trails series. The study of plate tectonics is vital to what happens to cause the Rio Grande to spilt up to Yellowstone. And to recognize how long it would take for the Rio Sea to form. As the plates move, and the rains come, the ground will change. Seas and lands may switch places again.
